Edisto Beach Loggerhead Turtle Project
EBLTP consists of a group of dedicated volunteers who spend their mornings and evenings during turtle season walking the town’s beaches to locate, mark, and protect our sea turtle nests and hatchlings.
Established in 1982, the organization is a registered 501(c)(3) in South Carolina and obtains annual authorization from the SC DNR to perform conservation activities.
The Edisto Beach Loggerhead Turtle Project is entirely staffed by trained volunteers. Training guidelines for team members monitoring sea turtle activity are in accordance with the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. All members receive extensive training related to beach monitoring, nest relocation, and nest inventories.
Volunteer
For volunteer opportunities, please check back with us at the beginning of March for the 2026 Turtle season. All new volunteers must be able to commit to the entire nesting season. Unfortunately, no short term positions are available. Check the “You Can Help” tab for other ways you can help Edisto Beach Sea Turtles!
Donate
You can make a difference on Edisto Beach and all over the world by donating to support the preservation of loggerhead sea turtles.

Adopt a Nest
A big thank you for your interest in our Adopt A Nest Program! However, the program has been temporarily put on hold due to the overwhelming response from donors supporting the program and the slow start to the nesting season. We will continue to assess the number of nests compared to the number of adoptions. Our goal is to ensure those that have already adopted will receive their assigned nest soon and that we will be able to reopen the program in the near future. Thank you for your patience and your continued support of the Edisto Beach Loggerhead Turtle Project.
